Small Town Murder Songs (2010)

Here’s another one of those movies that I don’t have a lot to talk about, but let me assure you that it is good.  Small Town Murder Songs is a Canadian crime thriller starring Peter Stormare as a police officer dealing with his own personal demons as he attempts to solve murder.  It’s not the most Canadian-feeling of movies, but definitely grabs the small town vibe as well as Red Hill did.  They’re very similar movies in some aspects, but there’s nowhere near the amount of violence in STMS as there was in Red Hill.  I wasn’t a huge fan of some of the cinematic choices (extensive slo-mo scenes with a booming soundtrack gets old fast), but as the poster trumpets, it is Coen Brothers-esque.  It’s not too long either, tells its story and leaves you to ruminate on it.  Recommended, but not for everyone.
