Wrecked (2011)

Where did it begin, this survival horror thriller genre?  Was it The Blair Witch Project?  No, they all died OH SPOILER ALERT for a movie 12 years old.  I’d say that for movies that I’ve seen, it probably began with Open Water.. oh shit they died too.  Frozen was basically Open Water on a ski lift (I enjoyed it, very high in the tension-inducement factor), and before that was World Trade Center which was basically what Buried turned into except people wanted Ryan Reynolds to get out of his predicament and could not have given two shits if Nicolas Cage emerged.

Anyways, Wrecked is somewhat along those lines, with Adrien Brody waking up bloodied, bashed and suffering from amnesia in a car crashed car.  Or, a wrecked car, if you will.  No idea who he is, no idea why the car is down an embankment in the forest, no clue who the dead guy in the back seat is, nothing.  And since we don’t know his story, we get to learn along with him as he struggles to free himself from the car and then survive the treacherous wilderness.  Occasionally, Caroline Dhavernas shows up for Reasons.

Things happen, both physically and mentally to him, and portions of the story are revealed and then we have the ending, hurrah!  I liked it, though I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone, especially if you couldn’t handle the dreamy Ryan Reynolds in a coffin for 90 minutes.  It’s decent, it does the job it is supposed to.
